Founder's Remarks

On this day, Monday 16th August, the Abdullah Dzinamarira Foundation launched the Donate a $1 Call, an initiative meant to reach out to as many people as possible to come and support our cause. As an organization, we have children at heart.

Our world is aptly classified by our own eyes in a split-second sight. No one needs a pair of binoculars to attach a value to something grand or inferior. Today, beyond what the eyes can see, the need of some underprivileged children has remained unattended. This child is asking with an open hand for a better and brighter future.

Take a tour on your mind, visualize the pictures of children who dropped from school when their mates enjoy such Monday to Friday. They are willing but they are not able. They are not backwards in learning; their only limitation is funding. While at home, they tilt into hawking, child labor and willing tools in the hands of men and women of questionable characters. I think about what their future will look like – will they ever come out of their situation? Maybe only a miracle will change their tomorrow for good. That miracle is with you! Your donations will start and accomplish that turn around.

Raising funds to support the ongoing education of these underprivileged children is a project with multiple benefits. First, these children will enjoy an uninterrupted flow in their studies thus making their dreams and aspirations come true. They will become useful to themselves and the society at large. I believe in the saying that given every opportunity, every child is a gifted child. I see talented sportsmen and women who will write the name of Zimbabwe in gold, I see a team of skilled engineers, a rare brand of teachers, unique administrators and more among these children.

Aside from the above, there is another side of the coin. A bunch of die-hard criminals, future thieves, and prostitutes among these children if we leave the stone unturned. Should they degenerate into this, a great future would have been wasted. Our economy and civility will receive a hard puncture. But that will only be the tip of the iceberg – you and I will never be safe right inside our homes. We all shall be perpetually hounded. In the end, we shall all be like them in one way or the other.

All over the world, there are uncountable stories of Zimbabwean men and women who would have been limited to an obscure corner of the earth because they were underprivileged as a child. Yes, they were underprivileged, but help came from somewhere and today it’s another story of glory – grass to grace. The plight and future of underprivileged children lie with you and me. Join me and donate $1 today. I thank you.

The Call

The future is becoming bleak and hopeless because of the COVID-19 pandemic that has affected scores of people from the great, small, rich and poor in the world. This status quo of hopelessness is new to many but not to the children in this call, whose future has been hopeless way before even the pandemic came. With no one to look up to, nor access to education, the following are just a few select children whose lives can change by your simple but essentially great act of love. A dollar or more will make a difference in sending them to school. The following examples of children whose future depends on you and me:

NB: Names of the children have been changed as per the organization's child protection policy.

  • Tinotenda is a 9-year-old boy in grade 3 at Chaedza Primary School, residing in Chinhoyi with his single unemployed  mother. The piece jobs Atipaishe's mother lives on do not earn her enough  money to pay school fees nor buy uniforms for her child. Atipaishe enjoys playing volleyball in school. He also enjoys reading but is disadvantaged  a lot as his mother cannot afford books for him to read. Atipaishe aspires  to be an engineer when he grows up.
  • Kudakwashe is a 9-year-old boy in grade 1 at Munyarari Primary School and resides in Mutare. His mother has a mental  health problem while his grandmother is very old. His grandmother is  struggling to make ends meet. He delayed starting school because he had no funding for him to go to school. Ngoni enjoys playing football with other      children. He wants to be a doctor when he grows up.
  • Runyararo is 11 years old and in grade 6 at Tichakunda Primary School. She resides in Hatcliffe Harare with her  mother, who is seriously sick and unemployed. Her father passed away while her mother’s condition does not allow her to provide for her financially to meet the basic needs like education. She is a bright child with a      promising future ahead if given the opportunity. Nyasha is a good athlete who also likes art and spends most of her time drawing. She aspires to be an engineer when she grows up.
  • Paida is a 13-year-old in grade 5 at Mupawose Primary School and resides in Kadoma with her mother. Primrose’s  mother survives from doing piece-jobs that covers food only. Therefore,  she cannot afford to cater for any other educational needs. Primrose enjoys  playing sport during her free time. She aspires to be a nurse when she grows up due to her love for helping other people.
  • Rutendo is a 12-year-old in grade 4 at St. Werburgh primary school, residing in Mutare with her paternal grandmother. Ruvarashe’s grandmother is old. She can hardly raise school fees and other school necessities as she can only provide food and clothing. Ruvarashe likes to play netball but cannot continue to play as she has no birth certificate and likes to play with her friends. She aspires to be a Policewoman as she admires the work they do.

Share hope and donate a dollar. By donating US$1, you help vulnerable children who are not going to school due to financial constraints to have access to education, promising a better future for them tomorrow. Our initial target is US$5000 to pay for the children's tuition fees, purchase uniforms, food baskets, stationery, sanitary wear for girls and other pertinent essentials. Thereafter, collections will be used to initiate a variety of community-based projects that can improve livelihoods of underprivileged children. The donation of US$1 might seem small when done by one individual, but when you look at it collectively, the impact is over and above.

Please share this appeal for a donation with everyone in your network so we can send more children to school. The above are real-life stories that you and I can bring a plot twist. Primrose dreams to be a nurse someday, Tinotenda wants to be an engineer as much as Runyararo dreams of a doctor. If you and I join hands to secure these children's future, their dreams will come true. It is possible, and it shall come to pass. Donate a dollar today and make an eternal difference!
